A global leader in customer success technology sought a visionary Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to fortify its SaaS platform security during rapid business growth. The role demanded a leader who could balance technical expertise (e.g., cloud security, compliance frameworks) with executive-level influence to safeguard customer data and drive enterprise-wide security transformation.

The search required a candidate with fifteen-plus years in cybersecurity leadership, including SaaS/cloud environments (AWS/GCP). The ideal candidate needed expertise in M&A security integration, DevSecOps, and global compliance (GDPR, NIST, PCI DSS). 

We needed someone with a proven ability to influence C-suite stakeholders and build scalable security teams. Cultural alignment was critical—the client prioritized a leader who embodied its values of innovation, diversity, and customer-centricity. 

Filling the role was urgent, as it was critical to preparing the company for IPO-level scrutiny and expanding enterprise client trust.

Encrypted Search Strategy 

To address the client’s unique requirements, we implemented a targeted approach. We focused our talent mapping on SaaS/cloud security leaders, prioritizing candidates with GCC experience, leveraging proprietary networks (CISO communities) to access passive talent. 

We conducted rigorous assessments, evaluating candidates’ technical depth (AWS/GCP, compliance), leadership acumen, business acumen, and behavioral indicators of cultural fit. 

We delivered a diversity-forward shortlist with forty percent diversity, balancing technical expertise with facilitated talent alignment workshops to prioritize fit. 

>The Results 

Security Patch Complete 

Our search delivered a finalist slate of three candidates who met the technical and cultural requirements. The selected candidate stood out for several key qualities: a patent-bearing risk assessment framework compatible with the client’s security terms, proven ability to build sixty-member teams, and business acumen evidenced by prior roles at Fortune five hundred companies. 

The winning candidate had received awards like “NextCSO” and had numerous speaking engagements, validating their industry influence. Their appointment has significantly strengthened the organization’s security posture.
